International Relations Report
April 2010
Kia ora, Greetings, Hello from New Zealand.
Hopefully you are all now enjoying warmer weather with spring in the air, we of course are now into autumn and soon it will cool down a bit, thank goodness for our temperate climate!
We have been watching with concern and interest your long and cold winter and hope you have all managed to keep safe, warm and dry.
We have to say sorry that we are not able to attend but once again our good friends and Consuls have agreed to continue to speak for us; we have them on remote control with electric collars on them in case they misbehave!!!!!
41 Club here in New Zealand continues to enjoy its existence although we do appear to be ageing ever so slightly and very few new members joining.
I can hear you all saying that our wonderful Club will disappear and yes we have thought and discussed this very sad future.
However we have had such a wonderful time and so much special fellowship that only having been Round Tablers can bring and to bring in members that have not had this enlightenment would do us no service at all.
There are many other clubs here in New Zealand that we could join for other friendships but 41 Club to us is sacrosanct.
You ask what about Round Table, where has it gone?
My personal belief and that of many of 41er's is that the introduction of "7 Day Trading", the extra pressures it placed on young people with both partners working and the increased speed of life style here in New Zealand has made it very difficult to recruit new members for Round Table and try as we have numbers have dwindled down to a fraction of what they once were.
From what I have heard this would appear to the case in several other countries as well.
41 Club New Zealand still has around 400 members with 17 Clubs and contacts spread throughout the land, including Australia.
We have a great relationship with Apex 40 in Australia and a large group of them are planning to come over for our 2011 AGM and tour the South Island while here.
There is a small group going to New Caledonia for the 20th anniversary of Club 41 Noumea in July and some of their members are coming back to our to our AGM in Upper Hutt.
We may be at the end of the earth but you are all welcome here.
"May the hinges of friendship never rust".
Derek Johns April 2010.
